Chifa, is a much loved Peruvian tradition. It is a fusion of Peruvian and Chinese cuisine, and has it’s origins in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when Chinese immigrants, arrived in Peru to work. Over time they started to open restaurants, blending traditional Chinese flavors with local Peruvian ingredients. This unique culinary fusion gave birth to chifa, a cuisine that seamlessly combines soy sauce, ginger, and stir-frying techniques with Peruvian staples like ají peppers and potatoes, creating a delicious and distinctly Peruvian flavor profile.
This chifa has been here for over 46 years, so they must be doing something right. There are two options… A fairly inexpensive menu starting at 19 soles for a soup or fried wonton, followed by a large plate of rice and different options of meats or a full a la carte menu with a lot more options.
We went for the menu, and for the price thought this was a great value dining experience. We ate Meat with beansprouts, a chicken dish, and an interesting chifa with meat and bitter melon, which is something I had never heard of before. Very much an acquired taste as it was remarkably bitter.
